dialogue room

A white room. In the middle is a long glass table with a large crack. At it sit men dressed all in black. Their faces are covered. They sit silently facing each other. Questions are printed on their t-shirts. Like fragments, they are detached from their context. The viewer is confronted with a non-verbal dialogue, which both decelerates and gives room for interpretation. Normally, we can actively participate in a conversation. But in this room, we are silent listeners.
There is the saying in german “putting a question in the room” or “leaving a question in the room”. The questioner addresses the collective with a so-called open question in order to find answers or to invite them to reflect and take a stand. This is the basic idea of the so-called Dialogue space, which forms the 3D Concept Room of the collection. We enter it and are left with open questions. We search for our own answers. We begin to reflect.
The selected dialogue is composed of free thoughts and excerpts from “The Great Silence” by Allora & Calzadilla and Ted Chiang. It is dominated by the mood of talking past each other. Each question meets with resonance but does not find a precise answer. The six composed dialogue looks from the concept looks of the collection. It refers to the way we deal with the great complex and confusing questions of our time. The urgency of these unanswered questions lies in the fact that we cannot find answers as individuals but through collective dialogue. It is about the idea of formulating collective questions and finding answers in our collective dialogue to be able to face the crises of our time. Only in this way can we strengthen our collective consciousness (manifesto 034).

- why do we destroy us?
- it´s an ear for listening, and a mouth for speaking.
- it´s also the disappearance of our languange, our rituals, our traditions.
- they just weren´t paying attention.
- soon this place may be silent as the rest of the universe.
- you be good, i love you. -

In this room, we are silent listeners -
